Tired of stories about vampires with love interests, or children with flesh eating zombies for parents, or teens who suddenly discover their penchant for wizardry? It seems the young adult market is flooded with these sort of tales.

Piercing Through, my young adult dark fantasy, offers an original concept with more edge and more grit. It centers around a developing cultural war between tattoo enthusiasts and piercing purists.

Kelly Sage, a troubled 17-year-old, longs to escape the pain caused by her mother’s premature death and the acts of emotional tyranny that followed from her stepfather.  She believes immersing herself in the piercing subculture will help her pierce through to a different dimension where a better life awaits.

William Hendricks, owner of Inkenstein Tattoos, fears the mystical phenomenon known as piercing through.  When Kelly’s pursuit of it takes a bad turn, William knows the only thing that can save her are the black magic tattoos inked on his skin.  But how can he unlock their power?
